Drug use among minors has decreased over the last two years.<\/h3>\n

According to the Survey on Alcohol and Other Drugs in Spain (EDADES), prepared by the Government Delegation for the National Plan on Drugs, the use of all drugs, except cannabis, has stabilised or decreased over the last two years among minors and the population aged roughly 18 to 64. The survey results were published last 26 May by the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality.<\/p>\n

This edition of the survey included a module on the use of electronic cigarettes with or without nicotine. New questions were also introduced on the use of the different forms in which cannabis is presented (marijuana or hashish), whether mixed with tobacco or not. The survey incorporated a specific module on the use of sedative-hypnotics. This explores the characteristics and prevalence of the use of this set of substances. Finally, and for the first time, problematic use of sedative-hypnotics was assessed by introducing a scale that uses DSM-V classification criteria. <\/p>\n

The EDADES 2015\u20132016 data confirm that drug use among minors is declining, in the 15 to 17 age group. 58% of the minors surveyed consumed alcohol during the last year, compared with 66.2% in the previous edition of the survey. And 20.6% consumed tobacco, compared with 28.3% two years ago. <\/p>\n

Cannabis users stand at 12.6%, also down from 14.5% two years ago. Even so, the percentage of users of this substance among 15 to 17-year-olds is double that of those over 35, which stands at 5.5%. <\/p>\n

As for sedative-hypnotics, with or without a prescription, prevalence among minors reaches 2.1%. And stimulants such as ecstasy and cocaine stand at 0.8% and 0.6% respectively. <\/p>\n

Usefulness of anti-drug actions<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Education in schools (90.8%), voluntary treatment for users (83.3%) and advertising campaigns (80.7%) remain the actions preferred by respondents. 37.4% consider the legalisation of cannabis important. This represents an increase compared with 33.1% in the previous edition. <\/p>\n
