Bone tissue density may decrease due to cannabis consumption.<\/h3>\n

The conclusions of a study conducted by researchers from the University of Edinburgh (Scotland) were released this week. This study links cannabis use to the risk of suffering from osteoporosis.<\/strong> A bone disease characterized by a decrease in bone tissue density, resulting in excessive bone fragility. <\/p>\n

The study found lower body weight and a reduction in body mass index<\/strong> among heavy cannabis users. This could also contribute to bone thinning and may explain why they face a higher risk of osteoporosis.<\/p>\n

The study involved 170 people who smoked marijuana regularly for recreational purposes and 114 who were not considered users of the drug. The authors used an X-ray scanner to measure their bone density. They found that the bone density of heavy cannabis users was 5% lower<\/strong> than that of tobacco smokers who did not use cannabis. <\/p>\n
