Facing an addiction is not easy, and taking the step of entering an addiction treatment centre can feel frightening. However, those who have been through the process know it can be the first step towards a new life. Below, we share experiences from residents who have lived through this process first-hand.
From initial resistance to acceptance
“When I arrived at the centre, I felt like I was in a prison: strict rules, rigid schedules, and the obligation to talk about things I’d been avoiding for years. I didn’t feel like it at all,” says Michael. Javier, for his part, remembers feeling the same: “I wasn’t an ‘addict’, just someone who went out partying. But when my life fell apart, I understood I needed help.”
For both, the first few days were tough. Michael admits that “there were moments when I just wanted to run out of there”, while Javier acknowledges that “physically I had a hard time, but the worst part was facing myself”. However, little by little, they began to notice the changes. “I didn’t realise it straight away, but every day that went by without using was a victory,” Javier explains.
A process of transformation
Michael and Javier share something in common: both arrived at the centre with their lives in ruins. “My wife was about to leave me, my children were drifting away, and my family had lost hope in me,” Michael recalls. Javier, on the other hand, saw his social circle shrink to people who were only with him out of convenience: “I lost my partner and my family got tired of my lies.”
The support of other residents was essential. “No one judges you here; we’ve all been through the same thing,” says Michael. “Little by little, I learned that the centre’s structure wasn’t a punishment, but an opportunity to rebuild myself,” adds Javier. Both highlight the importance of therapeutic work. “My addiction wasn’t just the use; it was the emptiness I was trying to fill with drugs,” Javier admits, while Michael emphasises that “getting back into healthy habits was key to my recovery.”
A method that works: recovery and relapse prevention
At our addiction treatment centre, we offer much more than simple detox. Our approach is based on comprehensive treatment that addresses not only substance use, but also the roots of the problem. We have a team of specialised professionals who work with each patient to design a personalised recovery plan.
Our 86% success rate shows that the method works. But most importantly, we work to make sure this time it is the last, providing relapse-prevention strategies and offering ongoing support after leaving the centre. Here, change is real and sustainable.
