At What Price Does One Achieve Excellence?

Adderall, the drug of success.

Achieving success and being outstanding is a goal that many set for their lives. In fact, today’s society has instilled the pressure to be excellent. “If you don’t have a degree, you will hardly find a job.” Nowadays, it seems that the concept of “less is more” has become “more is more and, the more, the better.” This generates the need to perform more, demand more, and know more. However, to what extent does this pressure affect people’s lives? In the United States, the use of a prescription medication, Adderall, has become popular.

This medication is composed of dextroamphetamine and amphetamine. What effects does this medication have? Initially, its medical use is applied in the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This medication, in Spain called Ritalin, is prescribed primarily to children with this disorder.
Recently, the consumption of this substance has spread among the university community. Apparently, its effects include increased concentration and performance. As always, abusive use outside of medical recommendations makes it an aggressive substance for those who take it, with varied effects:

• Loss of appetite
• Mood changes and nervousness
• Tachycardia
• Headaches and dizziness
• Insomnia
• Hallucinations

Last March, the online entertainment platform Netflix premiered a documentary, Take Your Pills, which reveals the problem of Adderall consumption in the United States. Obviously, we are talking about consumption not prescribed by a specialist. Beyond recognizing the problem, it raises how pressure leads to the use of stimulants under the illusion of superior performance.

There is always a way out

And yet, we can all agree that the key to success does not lie in the use of artificial stimulants that condition and impoverish our quality of life. The best way to achieve our goals is by being well. That is why a healthy life allows us to give the best version of ourselves.

At CC Adicciones, we help our patients recover well-being in their lives. You can request information, without obligation, by calling 977 809 523.
