The visibility of people using drugs is decreasing. However, it is common to encounter people smoking joints.

The visibility of drugs continues the downward trend in all situations presented in the questionnaires. For example, syringes on the ground, people snorting or injecting. Or people smoking joints or spliffs, dealers offering drugs, or intoxicated individuals. Despite the decline, 45.1% of the population reports encountering people smoking joints frequently or very frequently.

Overall, the perception of risk and the availability and visibility of substances has decreased according to the results of the Survey on Alcohol and Other Drugs in Spain (EDADES). This was conducted using approximately 22,500 valid questionnaires. Completed by the general population aged 15 to 64 residing in Spain between 2015 and 2016.

The population that attributes risk to consuming cannabis once or more per week decreases from 82.4% to 79.8%. However, in general, the perception of risk increases for sporadic consumption (once or less per month) of the other substances studied. Less than half of the population, 45.8%, attributes considerable or significant problems to alcohol consumption of 5 or 6 beers or drinks during the weekend. Regarding tobacco, a high perception of risk persists, at 91.6%, for consuming one pack daily.

Regarding the availability of substances, the downward trend is confirmed. Initiated in 2009 for all of them (excluding tobacco and alcohol, as they are legal). However, cannabis is the most accessible illegal drug. And 64.3% of the population considers that they could obtain it easily or very easily within 24 hours.
