The effects of Cannabis and its derivatives on health

Earlier this year, the conclusions of an important study conducted in the United States on the effects and consequences of marijuana consumption were published.

Dr. Juan Sabater-Tobella, president of Eugenomic, European specialist in Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine and member of the Pharmacogenomics Research Network, has written an article summarizing the most significant conclusions of this work, titled Health Effects of Marijuana and Cannabis-Derived Products. Below are some of the most impactful conclusions:

1. Cannabis consumption increases the risk of traffic accidents

2. Increases the risk of psychosis and schizophrenia

3. Decreases attention, memory, and learning capacity. Its effect is very negative on the brain, especially during development (in childhood and adolescence).

4. There is a higher risk of suffering a cardiac or cerebral vascular accident

The original article also cites the WHO report from November 2016, which details the adverse effects of continued cannabis use.
