Drugs are full of very harmful chemicals, increasingly easy to produce, and tremendously dangerous and addictive. Below, we discuss three of these street drugs:
Bath Salts
This is the name given to synthetic drugs containing substituted cathinones. These can be injected, smoked, snorted, or swallowed.
Bath salts produce effects similar to other stimulants like cocaine, crystal meth, or methamphetamine. The main psychoactive effects include increased alertness, euphoria, agitation, high blood pressure, and increased heart rate.
On the other hand, their most harmful effects are that they can cause aggression, paranoia, psychosis (loss of contact with reality), depression, suicidal thoughts, and even death. When their consumption leads to a stable loss of reality and confusion, coupled with aggression induced by the substance’s effects on areas of the limbic system, it can lead to brutal assaults.
Liquid Ecstasy (GHB)
It is a white powder that is usually seen mixed with water. It is a depressant, producing an effect contrary to ecstasy, which is a stimulant drug.
By acting directly on the central nervous system, it can cause very dangerous effects. It can lead to dizziness, nausea, vomiting, blurred or double vision, incoordination, and drowsiness. Other effects include headaches, respiratory depression, delusions, hallucinations, muscle contractures, and more rarely, and associated with high doses, diarrhea, amnesia, seizures, and coma.
Due to its characteristics, it is used to carry out robberies or sexual assaults, just like Burundanga (scopolamine), as it nullifies the person’s will, leaving them defenseless.
Liquid ecstasy is especially dangerous when mixed with alcohol, as this combination can lead to coma and be fatal.
Angel Dust (phencyclidine or PCP)
It appears as a crystalline white powder and can be found in pill form; powder for snorting; or mixed with liquid for injection.
It can make users feel disconnected from their bodies and surroundings. It can also distort visual, auditory, and reality perceptions; it is a drug known for giving a false sense of strength, power, and invincibility, potentially leading to violence.
High doses of this drug can cause hallucinations and symptoms similar to mental illnesses like schizophrenia. These include anxiety, delusions, paranoia, problems forming coherent thoughts, suicidal ideation, and strange behavior.
If mixed with alcohol or central nervous system depressants, it can lead the user to coma and serious consequences.
