Complementary activities for a detox treatment

por CC Adicciones

To detox from an addiction, it is necessary to undergo treatment and have medical supervision and support throughout the process. In addition to therapy, there are several complementary activities for a detox treatment that can be key to the process.

At CCAdicciones, we offer our patients both recreational activities and sports therapies, as we firmly believe in the benefits both can provide. They can be very important in recovery, and for some people, enjoying them can make a real difference in their detox.

Recreational activities

As we said, combining therapies with these complementary activities for a detox treatment can be very helpful and can be very useful for people. They are always carried out with the aim of modifying the patient’s behaviour so they can live a life free from dependence.

These are some of the activities we carry out at CCAdicciones:

  • Workshops to develop social and communication skills that may have deteriorated due to addiction
  • Group dynamics to foster empathy, tolerance, self-esteem, etc.
  • Body expression and laughter therapy workshops
  • Relaxation and mindfulness techniques to reduce anxiety and promote emotional balance

Influencing mood

This is one of the keys to this type of activity and one of the main reasons we do them. Positively influencing people’s mood can be essential to turning around a situation that is often problematic. Unhappiness, depression and anxiety are recurring issues among people with addiction, and being able to influence their wellbeing can help them greatly. Finding calm, joy, approaching the process with more optimism… seeing everything differently and having more strength to turn around a complex situation.

Sports therapies

Continuing along the lines of carrying out activities that can provide benefits, we have sports therapies, a type of therapy we carry out at CCAdicciones led by sports therapists and with clear objectives focused on detox. But not only that: the benefits of sports practice can be very positive in many aspects of people’s lives and health.

From activities on the beach or in the gym, to group classes taught by our professionals. We also carry out toning, elasticity and flexibility work, as well as proprioception exercises, i.e., coordination for one’s own neurological activation and spatial awareness. Lastly, we also provide personal training to better address each patient’s needs.

As we can see, within sports practice there is also an important component of physical recovery for people whose condition has deteriorated in that respect due to addiction.

Benefits of sports therapy

Making sport something important in your life will always be beneficial for your health and can be a fundamental part of an addict’s recovery. Sport can offer a space where anxiety and stress are reduced, or mood is improved, among other benefits.

When a person plays sport, their cravings to use also decrease, they gain energy to do more activities, and at the same time they improve their muscle strength and endurance. It is also essential for a person with addiction to establish healthy routines and to motivate themselves towards practising a habit that is healthy. All of this can also have an impact on self-esteem, as it can lead to a greater perception of oneself both mentally and physically.

In addition, when practising sport, hormones are released that make those who practise it feel better. Endorphins, dopamine, oxytocin or serotonin can help you feel joy, pleasure, calm, etc.

Therapies

Despite the importance of complementary activities for a detox treatment, we must not forget the therapeutic services we offer at CCAdicciones.

Group therapy

This therapy is carried out with the intention of creating a space for people with addiction where they feel understood and can share their experiences and listen to some similar ones. It is also a space to resolve conflicts, promote certain behavioural changes and share personal experiences that might be more difficult to talk about in another environment.

Individual therapy

This therapy is also very important because it allows professionals to delve deeper into patients’ cases in a more individualised way and work on each case with the greatest possible understanding of the person. At the same time, it provides people with addiction with a more intimate context in which to share whatever they wish.

    Other services

CCAdicciones is not only a detox centre. We offer many other services to provide comprehensive treatment for people with addiction and to adapt to each individual’s personal circumstances.

    Family support service

The family support service is essential, as families can be the main support for people with addiction, and it is crucial to provide them with help and tools to support their ill relatives.

Within this service we offer: family and couples therapy, as well as family mediation and counselling. It is important to support the recovery process, as it can be a difficult time for the person with addiction and their family members. Receiving psychological support, being given tools to improve communication and, ultimately, counselling can be very positive for the person with addiction and for the relationship between family members and the person who is ill.

    Outpatient treatment

Although the most recommended option in cases of addiction is admission to a detox centre, at CCAdicciones we also offer the possibility of outpatient treatments. This way, people who, for whatever reason, cannot be admitted to our centres can begin a treatment process without admission. It is more advisable to do outpatient treatment in more advanced stages of recovery, and for it to serve to monitor patients.

Leaving addiction behind, the ultimate goal

Ultimately, all these therapies and services we offer at CCAdicciones have one goal: the patient’s recovery. What matters most to us is that when they are admitted to a detox centre, they receive complete care. Our way of addressing the illness from different angles and with different therapies helps us treat the person with addiction in the best possible way. With all of this, the ultimate goal—recovery—will be closer.
