MDMA, a drug with a high health risk and common among young people

MDMA is a synthetic drug that acts as a stimulant and hallucinogen. It is a substance that is frequently combined with other drugs. It began to be used in party settings and nightclubs, and it is generally used by young people.

In this way, MDMA is frequently used in hot environments during physical activities, such as dancing. When this happens, this drug can cause hyperthermia in young people, that is, an increase in body temperature. This means the body cannot regulate its temperature effectively, and this situation requires immediate medical attention. Otherwise, it can cause brain swelling, as in heatstroke.

On the other hand, it also causes dehydration and leads to consuming a large amount of fluid. But MDMA causes the body to retain water, which can increase brain swelling.

Continued use can cause brain damage. It stimulates mood, causing negative psychological effects that may be experienced days after using the substance. These may include: depression, confusion, anxiety, paranoia, and memory impairment.

Other physical symptoms that may occur after using MDMA include: muscle tension, involuntary jaw movements, nausea, blurred vision, tremors, kidney failure, or pulmonary edema.

This synthetic drug, commonly used among young people due to its easy access and relatively low price, poses a high risk to their health, and they are usually unaware of its negative effects.
