5 of the 35 new illegal drugs detected in Spain
Last year in Spain, 35 new illegal drugs were detected for the first time. Some of the most dangerous drugs have these names and characteristics:
- Mephedrone: This drug is a stimulant and entactogen, similar to amphetamine. It is sold as fake ecstasy and comes in various formats, although the most popular is powder.
- Spice: A new synthetic drug that looks like marijuana and smells like watermelon—quite a combination. It appeared in the US six years ago.
- Flakka: A designer drug with effects as potent as they are deadly. It can be consumed orally, snorted, smoked, or injected.
- Methoxetamine: With amphetamine-like properties and effects similar to those of ketamine, it is toxic and can lead to death.
- Pink Cocaine: Derived from amphetamines, this drug was first synthesized and isolated in 1974. It is marketed in the form of pills, capsules, and colored powder, most often pink.
As reported in the ABC newspaper, the lack of information and the ease of obtaining them online caused more than 450 deaths associated with illegal drug use in 2014.
