Parties: the bridge to drugs

por CC Adicciones

It is rare to see a celebration where there is no alcohol on the table. Or for someone to order a non-alcoholic drink in a nightclub. Parties are often a bridge to drugs, as leisure and celebrations are closely linked to the consumption of narcotics.

Although it should not have to be this way and work should be done on it, it is difficult to dissociate one from the other. Alcohol and many other drugs can be found at any party.

Parties without alcohol?

Currently, nightlife is not understood without the presence of drugs. As we mentioned, these can be found without any difficulty. Whether legal or illegal, their easy access means that everyone can have them if they want or need them.

Any type of party or celebration is always accompanied by alcohol and, very frequently, other drugs as well. However, is it possible to attend a party without consuming drugs? Apparently, it should not pose any problem, but the abundant and widespread consumption of alcohol in society and the conception of parties as something akin to a loss of control do not help. Furthermore, drugs such as cocaine, marijuana, or ecstasy are also very widespread and their consumption is also very high.

It is possible to participate in any event and enjoy leisure time away from drugs without any problem. If you have an environment that does not sympathize with or accept your decision, it is best to share your leisure time with other people or in contexts where you feel comfortable. Because parties are the bridge to drugs for many. However, we can say enough and have drug-free leisure time. At CCAdicciones we can help you.

Social pressure

There may be people who would not like to drink alcoholic beverages at certain times, or consume cocaine, etc. But the social pressure that leads people to try or consume higher doses is very common and represents a major problem.

Not taking drugs should not be something strange; not wanting to try certain drugs does not have to be a humiliation, and if people feel this way or if someone makes another person feel this way, we must distance ourselves from these types of spaces and individuals.

Groups of friends where a lot of drugs are consumed tend to be a bad influence, as the consumption of any type of drug is encouraged, doses tend to be increasingly higher, and drugs are increasingly present. Obviously, a group of friends where drugs carry a lot of weight and are consumed in any situation will be a dangerous circle that we should not be in, or if we are, from which we should flee.

This is common among addicted individuals and is one of the first things to correct if one wants to combat addiction. Distancing oneself from certain circles of friends where the world of drugs was embraced is vital for rehabilitation.

The importance of the environment

Although it may sometimes seem less relevant, who you surround yourself with can be very decisive. In fact, in addition to the social pressure that certain circles of people will exert, the rate of consumption can be much higher, and that is also a determining factor. Consuming alcohol and other drugs repeatedly on every occasion one goes out partying, has a dinner, or any social event will be much more serious than doing so occasionally, although it is not recommended either.

Therefore, we must be very careful if we detect that either ourselves or someone close to us frequents toxic environments. One should not be afraid to say no to drugs, but obviously, it will be easier if we distance ourselves from certain environments that encourage us to take drugs.

It is clear that if our environment is more aware of the risks of drugs, this will help a lot in preventing addiction. Parties are a dangerous bridge to drugs, and it is better to surround oneself with people who do not turn every social or leisure event into a party full of drugs. The environment can influence a lot, and if that poses a risk, one must know how to walk away. Because it is better to distance oneself from a toxic circle than to have drugs distance us from our lives.

    Regular alcohol consumption

As we mentioned, alcohol consumption is very widespread. It is usually the first drug that adolescents try, the most normalized, and the least criminalized. Its consumption is less concerning. This should not happen, because its consequences are disastrous for health.

It is so common that, according to the 2021 EDADES Report, during 2019/2020, 93.0% of the population between 15 and 64 years old admitted to having consumed alcoholic beverages at some point in their lives. And more than 77% of those surveyed stated they had drunk alcohol in the last 12 months. Thus, it is clear that alcohol is a very frequent drug, but at the same time a terrible one, and the consequences for its consumers are very harmful.

In addition to alcoholism, there are also serious problems due to other drugs. Although alcohol is the most consumed drug, we often find other narcotic substances at parties. In fact, many of them are closely associated with parties. Cocaine, MDMA, cannabis… in nightclubs, music festivals, or wherever there is a party, these drugs are likely to be present, but they must be avoided.
