Therapy to overcome addictions

por CC Adicciones

The foundation of CCAdicciones treatments is therapy with patients. It is the main methodology used for detoxification from any addiction, whether substance-related or not. The goal of therapy in a treatment plan is to achieve progress in patients and certain benefits.

Asking for help and starting therapy is not an easy decision. Socially, there is a perception that asking for help is a sign of weakness, but it is quite the opposite. You have to be very brave and strong to take the initiative, acknowledge that you have a problem that you cannot solve on your own, and that you need an urgent remedy. At CCAdicciones we extend a helping hand to those who need it most to offer them appropriate treatment, and we offer therapy to overcome addictions.

What does group therapy provide?

Group therapies are an addiction recovery tool that brings a few patients together so that they can share and listen to each other’s personal experiences related to the addictive disorder. In this way, they can realise that they are not alone, that they share things in common, and face similar problems and situations. This activity can help them regain self-confidence, begin to recover lost self-esteem, and consider changing their habits. It is also about reconnecting with other people and normalising their illness. This is something they are unlikely to accept without help and, if they do not, the recovery process is seriously hindered.

Group therapy is a fundamental part of our specialised addiction centre. Group therapy consists of holding sessions with several patients at the same time. When group sessions are held, a unique space of trust is created where it is possible to speak without taboos. People who suffer from an addiction always feel judged. It is a disorder that is very difficult to understand socially. For this reason, there are still individuals who continue to label addiction as a vice.

In a space where everyone is in a similar situation, there is equality and understanding prevails. The atmosphere that is created is positive because when people already know each other, they trust one another, share their day-to-day lives, learn to work as a team, and feel more motivated to leave the addiction behind. It is the path to improving recovery capacity and living a normal life again.

In short, group therapy should be understood as a very effective tool for the person to open up to others with the same problem, feel understood, and empathise with others in a collaborative rehabilitation process.

What does individual therapy provide?

Individual therapy complements the one we mentioned earlier. Holding individual sessions makes it possible to address that person’s specific case in depth. Each addiction case is different because it depends on many factors: the addiction, the degree of dependence, frequency of use, years of use, the addict’s personality, their environment… During individual therapy, more intimate aspects that are part of that person’s life and that they do not want to share in group sessions are also addressed. Therefore, as no two addiction cases are the same, each patient must be treated individually. In this way, it will be possible to offer each patient a unique treatment based on their needs, which will make it much more effective.

The combination: the key to success

Each type of therapy has specific benefits and is used to work on a specific aspect of addiction treatment. It is the combination of these two therapies that makes it possible for CCAdicciones to have a recovery rate of 86%. Therapy is focused on overcoming addictions.

    Psychological help to overcome addictions

A detox treatment is necessary to be able to leave an addiction behind. But after this process, the person still needs help. The goal of treatment is for the person to detox and learn to lead a healthy life with healthy habits that make a life without addictions possible. However, addiction is not cured immediately after finishing treatment, as the person will continue to need professional help. Receiving psychological help will allow the patient to remain in contact with an addiction specialist, which will facilitate reintegration into daily life and ongoing contact between patient and professional. In addition, it will prevent possible relapses or, at the very least, if one occurs, it can be identified in time and acted on quickly.

Therapy allows people to get to know themselves much better. In an addiction case, it is important to identify the origin, since it is not only important to undergo detoxification, but it is essential to understand the reasons for using: is it due to stress? Social pressure? To escape problems? Therapy also empowers because it allows you to learn tools to better manage certain situations, such as stress, grief, sadness…
