Today’s youth get drunk more than their parents.

Alcohol consumption has decreased but has increased among young people.

We heard it on RAC1 radio: today’s youth get drunk twice as much as 20 years ago. Although alcohol consumption has decreased, binge drinking has increased among young people. Especially at weekends. Doctors warn that it is not enough to invest more in prevention campaigns. They are calling for concrete measures in the new Alcohol Law being prepared by Congress.

Experts in prevention and epidemiology have highlighted, in statements to the station, measures that could be effective in the fight against alcohol abuse among young people:

– Increase the price of alcohol: Currently, in a supermarket, a litre of wine is cheaper than a litre of milk.

– Limit the establishments that can sell alcohol.

– Higher fines for anyone who sells to minors, or also penalise parents.

There is a serious problem with botellón, as we warned in this recent article: “There are young people who have the brain of a person with Alzheimer’s because of botellón”. The fact is that up to the age of 21 the brain is still developing. And excessive alcohol consumption can leave lasting effects.
