As social educator Rocío Ramos explains, the therapy is divided into different phases that strengthen a bond with the animal. The patient begins with groundwork in both closed and open arenas. This is followed by grooming tasks to work on the relationship with the animal, introductory riding with a lead rope, and finally, mounted sessions are conducted.
