Internet addicts can develop more mental health problems

by CC Adicciones

Being constantly connected to the internet can cause mental health problems.

A new survey conducted at McMaster University (Canada) among internet users warns that people who make excessive use of the internet may have more mental health problems. It is advisable for them to undergo ICT addiction treatment.

The most everyday objects and places are being equipped with internet connectivity. Not to mention devices created for this purpose, of course. The unstoppable rise of the internet due to its omnipresence has led to fears that a growing number of people are unable to manage without regularly accessing the network.

Some people “live online” almost 24 hours a day. Permanently connected to WhatsApp, social networks, or other applications. In this way, they develop a habit that can become problematic. One of the main negative effects warned by experts is the difficulty in coping with daily activities. But there are more negative consequences of internet addiction:

  • Symptoms of depression and anxiety
  • Problems with planning and time management
  • ADHD symptoms
  • According to the authors, it can also be strongly linked to compulsive behavior and addiction

The first public hospital to treat internet addiction already exists in the USA.
